Door County Golf Courses: Where to Tee Off on Your Next Door County Getaway

Door County may be known for its shoreline, charming small towns, and incredible state parks, but golfers have another reason to plan a getaway to the peninsula. Door County golf courses combine beautiful scenery with challenging layouts, historic fairways, and plenty of opportunities to tee off throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Whether you’re looking for sweeping views of Eagle Harbor, a championship course winding through orchards, or a laid-back round surrounded by the natural beauty of Door County, there is a course for every type of golfer.

For guests staying in Fish Creek, some of the area’s most memorable golf experiences are also within an easy drive. Pack your clubs or rent them when you arrive, and add a round or two to your next Door County getaway. Here are four Door County golf courses worth putting at the top of your list.

Door County Golf Courses Near Fish Creek: Peninsula State Park Golf Course

Located between Fish Creek and Ephraim, Peninsula State Park Golf Course is one of the most recognizable places to golf in Door County. The historic course began as a six-hole layout in 1921, expanded to nine holes in 1923, and became an 18-hole course in 1931. Today, its location inside Peninsula State Park makes it especially unique: it is the only golf course located within a Wisconsin state park.

The 18-hole course winds through rolling woodlands filled with white cedar, oak, beech, and maple trees while providing views across Eagle Harbor toward Ephraim. Golfers can even catch glimpses of the Niagara Escarpment as they make their way around the course.

One of the course’s standout holes is No. 17, a par 3 played from an elevated tee atop the hill known locally as Hill 17. The dramatic elevation change makes club selection tricky, and the sloping green adds another challenge once your ball lands. No. 8 is another memorable par 3, playing from atop a roughly 50-foot cliff toward a green below with Ephraim Harbor in the distance.

Peninsula State Park golf course is generally open May through October, with tee times available from dawn to dusk during the season. Because Door County weather can affect spring opening and fall closing dates, golfers should confirm current conditions when booking.

Golfers can choose to walk the championship course or reserve a power cart, with cart and green fees dynamically priced based on demand and tee time. There is also a six-hole par-3 Short Course and a driving range if you’re looking for a quicker golf outing or want to work on your swing.

The Orchards at Egg Harbor one of the scenic Door County golf courses

The Orchards at Egg Harbor

A short drive south of Fish Creek brings golfers to The Orchards at Egg Harbor, an 18-hole championship course set across more than 200 acres of Door County countryside. The par-72 course stretches to more than 7,200 yards from the back tees and features multiple tee options, allowing golfers to choose a distance appropriate for their game.

What makes The Orchards unique is right in its name. The front nine winds through mature hardwoods and apple, pear, and cherry orchards, while the back nine introduces more dramatic elevation changes. The final three holes play around a five-acre lake, creating both beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities for the water to find your golf ball.

One of the most notable holes is No. 16, a long par 5 where the lake becomes a major strategic factor. Golfers with a strong drive can consider going for the green in two, while those laying up need to navigate a narrow landing area and nearby bunkers. It is exactly the kind of hole that can turn a good round into a great one—or add a few strokes to the scorecard.

The Orchards operates seasonally. Its published 2026 rates are divided into opening day through June 18, peak season from June 19 through September 13, and September 14 through the course’s seasonal close. The golf shop typically has reduced hours during spring and fall, so checking ahead is recommended during the shoulder seasons.

Walking is an option, while electric golf carts are available for an additional fee. The course also has a practice range for golfers who want to warm up before their tee time.

Maxwelton Braes Golf Course in Baileys Harbor

For golfers who appreciate history and classic course design, Maxwelton Braes Golf Course in Baileys Harbor offers a distinctly different experience. Dating back to 1929 and designed by Joseph R. Roseman, Maxwelton Braes is part of Door County’s long golf tradition.

The 18-hole course measures just over 6,000 yards and combines wide fairways with strategic bunkering, interesting green contours, shorter par 4s and par 5s, and several longer holes that provide a test for experienced golfers.

Among the holes to watch is No. 4. This long par 4 stretches to 456 yards and becomes increasingly narrow around the landing area, rewarding both distance and accuracy off the tee. The traditional layout and variety of holes are a large part of Maxwelton Braes’ appeal, particularly for golfers who enjoy a more classic style of golf.

Maxwelton Braes is a seasonal course and is closed during winter. During its operating season, its golf shop currently lists daily hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its published 2026 summer rates run through September 27, although golfers visiting early or late in the season should contact the course for current playing conditions and availability.

This is also a particularly flexible option if your golf group has different preferences. Players can walk the course, rent a riding cart, or rent a pull cart. Club rentals are available as well, making Maxwelton Braes an easy addition to a Door County trip even if you don’t bring your own equipment.

Idlewild Golf Club

Idlewild Golf Club one of the championship Door County golf courses near Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin

Located north of downtown Sturgeon Bay, Idlewild Golf Club offers another championship-style experience for golfers exploring Door County golf courses. The 18-hole layout plays up to 6,876 yards from the back tees and offers multiple sets of tees, giving players the flexibility to choose a challenge that fits their game.

One of Idlewild’s most distinctive holes is No. 5, a 424-yard par 4 that asks golfers to navigate a dogleg along with multiple hazards. A marshy water hazard waits beside the fairway, while a creek short of the green, a bunker, and a large tree create additional challenges on the approach. It’s a hole where thoughtful shot placement can matter just as much as distance.

Idlewild also has a full driving range along with chipping and putting areas, making it a good choice for golfers who want time to practice before their round. After 18 holes, the on-site bar and grill provides a convenient place to settle in and recap the day.

Like most Door County golf courses, Idlewild operates seasonally, with spring and fall rates dependent on dates and conditions. The course’s 2026 rate sheet specifically lists spring/fall pricing with dates to be determined, so checking directly with the golf shop is the best way to confirm opening and closing dates when planning an early-spring or late-fall golf trip.

Golfers can walk or add a riding cart to their round, and Idlewild also rents pull carts for those who prefer to walk without carrying their bag. Rental clubs are available for both nine- and 18-hole rounds.

When Is the Best Time to Golf in Door County?

Door County Golf Courses
Visiting Door County golf courses is the perfect way to spend a day during your getaway

The Door County golf season generally stretches from spring into fall, but the exact dates vary by course and weather conditions. Peninsula State Park Golf Course specifically lists its season as May through October, while The Orchards, Maxwelton Braes, and Idlewild adjust spring and fall operations according to seasonal conditions.

Summer offers long days and plenty of tee-time options, but spring and fall can be especially appealing for a golf getaway. Late spring brings greener fairways and fewer peak-season crowds, while fall pairs a round of golf with Door County’s famous changing leaves. Because hours and course availability can change at either end of the season, always check directly with each course before your trip.

If you’re planning to play several Door County golf courses over a long weekend, Fish Creek makes an especially convenient home base. Peninsula State Park Golf Course is just outside town, while Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor, and other golf destinations are all within easy driving distance.
